Day by Day

Day 1

Gathering at the hotel in Kunming.

Day 2

One day in Kunming, often referred to as the”City of eternal Spring”. There is a lot to see in the city as well as outside.

Day 3

Bus to Jianshui. China has understood the historical value of this old garrison town and has classified several of the buildings as historically significant.

Day 4-6

Bus to Yuangyang, by the red River. You find fantastic terrracings, claimed to be the worlds highest. You hike shorter distances between the villages and stay over night with families during three days. Back to Yuangyang on the third day. Food is included during the hike.

Day 7

Early in the morning you take the bus to the boarder town, Hekou, to walk across to the Vietnamese boarder town Lao Cai. Stay over night at hotel in Lao Cai.

Day 8

Bus to Muong Lai via Lai Chau, through a incredible landscape with short stops for village visits or just to admire the surrounding nature. Lunch break in Lau Chau. Stay over night at a hotel in Muong Lai.

Day 9-12

You hike through rough terrain between the villages during four days. The views are very beautiful and you stay over night in villages that are inhabited by different ethnic minorities. The last day you catch a boat back to Muong Lai, where you stay over night at a hotel.

Day 13

A three hour long bus ride to Dien Bien Phu. This is where the French colonial adventures in Southeast Asia came to an abrupt end here in 1954, when they were defeated by Vietminh in a bloody battle. You can choose to look at parts of the old battle field or relax on your own.

Day 14

By bus from Dien Bien Phu to the Laotic boarder, in to Laos and on to the village Muong May. The village is situated by the river Nam Ou. You sleep in the village hotel and have time at your own disposal during the afternoon and evening.

Day 15

Early in the morning you continue by road to Muong Khoua and from there to the little sleepy village Muong Ngoi. You can relax and rest.

Day 16

Boat to Nong Khiaw in the morning and four-five hours with the local bus nr 4 to Luang Prabang. It is a UNESCO world heritage sight, certainly worth the title. There is a lot to see and experience.

Day 17-18

Two days to spend as you like in Luang Prabang. Visit the Royal Palace, some of the many pagodas, take a trip on the river or simply stroll and observe the rhythm around you. Pop into a restaurant to experience some delicious Laotian food.

Day 19

By bus to Phonsavan, regional center of the Plain of Jars. During the journey the landscape changes and differs remarkably from what you have seen of Laos so far.

Day 20

One day to experience Phonsavan and its surroundings. The highlight is a joint excursion to see the enigmatic Plain of Jars and its huge pots.

Day 21

By bus, 2-3 hours, from Phonsavan to the village Nong Het, to the trekking area. The first night you stay in a hotel.

Day 22-24

You trek between villages and stay with families. The last night you stay in a hotel in Nong Het.

Day 25

Bus to Vinh in Vietnam. You stay outside the town in the beach resort Cua Lo, right by the sea.

Day 26

One day to relax by the sea. Night train to Ha Noi.

Day 27

The journey is finished.
