Day by Day
Day 1
Gathering at the hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital.
Day 2
Morning bus to Snoul, about 4-5 hours away from Phnom Penh. Snoul is a very good place to take a break on the way to Mondulkiri. You can make a visit to the Vietnamese boarder 15 km from Snoul, walk around the market, pop in to a restaurant or just sit down and observe the rhythm of Snoul.Day 3-5
The journey continues by bus in the morning to Sen Morrom, capital in the province of Mondulkiri. The road is bad and it takes about five hours. It is the most sparsely populated province in Cambodia, 35000 inhabitants of which around 80% are from different ethnic minorities. The climate is cooler, since the province is at 800 m height, you should prepare yourself for chilly nights. With the Sen Morrom as base you will discover parts of the province during three days, e.g. the spectacular waterfalls Senmononorom and Bu Sra. You stay with a family in the village Pou Tang, where you participate in the daily chores.Day 6-8
Bus to the peaceful and beautiful town Kratie, situated by the river Mekong. This is one of the best places in the country to spot the very rare river dolphins. You cycle between villages, and make your way to islands in the River Mekong to visit tobacco farms.Day 9-10
Boat or bus to Kampong Cham, Cambodia’s third largest town. Explore the area, both town and the outskirts by bicycle. Visit rubber plantations and see the tapping, travel the River Mekong and choose from many good restaurants.Day 11-13
By bus on to Kep, a picturesque town by the coast. With Kep as base you can make excursions to the neighbor town Kampot or the national parks, Ream and Kirirom. Excursions to islands in the sea are also an alternative, most known and easy to get to, is Rabbit Island. The paste in Kep in pleasant, enjoy the surroundings and the tasty Cambodian food.Day 14-16
To Phnom Penh, by bus. Visit the Royal Palace, the National Museum and the splendid old market. Phnom Penh is a city full of contrasts. A visit to Toul Sleng, the old centre of torture is a given, despite of unpleasant atmosphere, another given is Choeung Ek, the execution place, where 17000 Cambodians met their death, by the Khmer Rouge. It is the most famous of Cambodia’s many killing-fields.Day 17-20
Boat up the Tonle Sap to Siem Reap. From Siem Reap you explore the Angkor Wat Temple complex. They were built from 802 to 1432 and spread over an area of 200 km². The unique grandness of Angkor is created by the richness of variation of Buddhism, Hinduism seen on the fantastic relief walls and the rain forest.
