Day by Day
Day 1
Gathering at the hotel in Delhi.
Day 2
Train from Delhi to Agra, where you visit the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort. You travel to Bharatpur with a hired bus an you may do a walk in the park before sunset.
Day 3
You have a whole day in Keoladeo Ghana National Park, one of the worlds finest bird sanctuaries. You don't need to be a bird enthusiast to appreciate this place. December is the nesting period and when the bird life is as liveliest. Waders, like, ducks, pelicans, storks and snakebirds, are seen everywhere, but the wildlife is filled with birds and mammals although the year. Mammals like deer, antelopes, nilgal, utter and python live there. You walk or cycle in the sanctuary.
Day 4-5
Bus to Jaipur. Many of the houses are built of the local red sandstone, hence the name Pink City. Discover the town with its beautiful buildings and rich bazaar life.
Day 6
Bus to the Shekhawati district, famous for its historical mural paintings and the beautifully ornamented old merchant houses, havelis. Overnight stay at a small fort in Mahansar.
Day 7
By jeep to the village Thelasar, where you stay with a family. The houses are simple, but neat and clean. Since nobody speaks English, you will have an interpreter.
Day 8
By jeeps to the desert town Bikaner. Visit the palace and enjoy the old settlement and the exciting bazaars.
Day 9-11
Early in the morning to the village Raisar. The journey through the desert by dromedary starts. You can choose between riding yourself or sit in wagons pulled by dromedaries, the usual method of transportation in the rural areas. You are split into smaller groups each with its own interpreter.Food will be served and prepared by our cook and you will sleep in tents in the desert.
Day 12-14
In the morning the dromedary journey continues for a while, after which you continue by jeep to Jaisalmer, the most famous of the fairytale cities. It has been a significant trade place and meeting point for camel caravans during centuries.Stroll the narrow streets, stop at the artisans on the street and try what is offered in food stalls. Admire, merchant housings constructed with multiple courtyards in order to separate the servants, men and women. Train to Jodhpur
Day 15
Jodhpur was founded in 1459. Visit the Mehrangarh Fort, one of the grandest forts in Rajasthan. From here you will have a splendid view over the Blue City, a name given to it by the Brahmins blue houses.
Day 16
From Jodhpur with local bus to Ranakpur, situated on the slopes of Aravalis Range. Ranakpur is a pilgrim destination for Jains and the small town is mostly famous for its fantastic Jain temple. Continue to Udaipur in the afternoon.
Day 17-18
Bus to Rajasthan's, probably, most charming town, Udaipur. The town is "only" 400 years old, but has a large range of art and culture. Take the opportunity to see a dance show. Last evening you take the night train to Delhi.
Day 19
One day in the Indian capital.
