Day by Day

Day 1-2

Gathering at the hotel In Addis Ababa, a big widely spread city at 2300 m height. There is a lot to see. The famous skeleton of Lucy, the woman that lives 3,2 million years ago, can be seen at the National Museum. A trip to Markato-Africa biggest market, is well worth a visit.

Day 3

The journey continues south by bus. Along Rift Valley to the town Arba Minch, a beautiful town surrounded by mountains and lakes.

Day 4-6

North of Arba Minch, at 3000 m height, lies the small town Chencha. You arrive by local bus and trek for approximately two hours, to reach the village Solla. Now you are in the Ethiopian countryside and the tour leader’s home area. You are a guest at the gamo people, whose traditional occupation is weaving. You get the chance to learn how to weave on traditional weave looms and sell the textiles on the market in Chencha.

Day 7-8

Back to Arba Minch, to visit the beautiful Nech Sar, The White Grass National Park and make a tour on the Lake Chamo. You see hippopotamus and crocodiles at the ”crocodile market”. Bathing is not recommended.

Day 9-11

You continue north back to Addis Ababa, but you make a two day stop by the Lake Langano, for relaxation and bathing. There is no crocodile, hippopotamus or bilharzias here.

Day 12-13

Flight to Gondar, previously Ethiopia’s capital with peculiar castles and palaces, built by different emperors. In the Debre Selassi church you find the famous angel paintings in the ceiling.

Day 14-20

Five days of trekking in the Simien Mountains close by Ethiopia’s highest mountain Ras Dashen at 4543 m height. A fantastic landscape with breathtaking steeps, peculiar plants such as giant lobelias and a unique wildlife, with baboons and walia ibex, which you most likely will spot. You sleep in tents and a cook cooks your meals. Mules carry the equipment and perhaps also a tired trekker at times. Last day back to Gondar.

Day 21-23

To Lalibela. Visit the world famous rock churches, caved straight from the mountain in the 12th century. The churches are bound together by a network gangs and tunnels, and are still used for masses everyday.

Day 24-25

Two whole days in Addis Ababa for your own disposal. The journey is finished.

Day 26 +

In December 2010 the tour is prolonged with one more day because of more advantageous flight bookings. You get another day in Addis Ababa for your own disposal.
