Itinerary

Upon arrival at Delhi airport you should withdraw or change some money in to indian rupies so you can pay for your taxi to Hotel Tourist in Delhi. At the airport, right after you walk out from the customs, there is a counter where you can get a prepaid taxi to the hotel (this means that you pay beforehand and that the price is fixed). The price should be around 350 - 500 Rs.To make sure that the driver finds your hotel you can mention that the hotel is near New Delhi Railway Station and it is located on Qutab Road. (You can also tell him that it is located on the Paharganj (Ramnagar) near Nabi-Karim Police Station of New Delhi Railway station.) The distance from the airport to the hotell is around 25 kilometres. Please stress that you want to go to Hotel Tourist and not to any other hotel.

Day 1

You will gather at our hotel in Delhi where your tour leader will meet you. The hotel is situated off a main street in a bustling part of the city on the border between New and Old Delhi. You will not have to walk many meters to encounter rickshaws, vendors and busy citypeople. The British built New Delhi, as the imperial capital, while Old Delhi was the capital of Muslim India between the 17th and 19th centuries. Have a look around in Old Delhi; visit the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid (the largest mosque in India).

Day 2

Train to Chandigarh. Get your Royal Enfield 500cc and get to know your fellow bikers. Then easy drive to Shimla (at 2.000 meters altitude). There you'll find many colonial houses from the time when Shilmal was the Brittish summer retreat capital, during the hot and rainy monsun. Driving distance 120 km More about Chandigarh

Day 3-5

To Mandi (750 m) and Manali, the most beautiful city in Himachal Pradesh. In Manali (2050 m) you'll stay one day for rest and to make excursions. Driving distance 155 + 125 km More about Mandi

Day 6

Now it's time for some serious biking! You're driving up to the snowy mountains and the Rothang gorge at 3.978 meters. Then down to Keylong (3349 m) in Lhoul. The former woodlands is now a rocky dessert. You have arrived at the Inner Himalaya. Driving distance125 km More about Keylong

Day 7-9

You continue along an almost empty road in rural areas on your way to Leh in Ladakh. After you passed Baralacha La at 4.830 m you spend the night in a camp in Sarchu (4255 m). Next day you continue to Tsokar (4530 m) where you also spend the night in a camp. The last day on the way to Leh (3500 m) you climb Taglang La at 5.328 meters. Day 10

A day of rest in Leh with a excursion to the Thiktse monastery.

Day 11

This is a a challenging day for all bikers but also one of the greatest motorbike experiences. You're doing a day trip up to Khardun La at 5.602 meters, the worlds highest motorable pass. Driving distance 80 km

Day 12

The road follows the Indus river to the 1000 year old Lamayuru monastery, from where you continue to Kargil (2750 m). Driving distance 220 km More about Kargil

Day 13

You're now leaving the dry, barren landscape behind you on your way down to Srinagar (1730 m). Here you will drive along green woodlands. Already back in the 18th century the British used to escape the indian summers here in Srinagar. You're spending the night on a houseboat on the very picturesque Dal lake. Day 14

Rest day including driving around the lake.

Day 15

Enjoy the ride through the Kashmir valley. You'll drive through the 2,5 km long Jawarhalal tunnel and when you reach the end of it you're once again south of the Himalayas. You spend the night in Patnitop (2024 m). Driving distance 190 km More about Kashmir

Day 16-17

Continue to McLeod Ganj (2160 m) in Dharamsala, the exile capitel of His Holyness Dalai Lamas. Dharamsala has av very strong tibetan atmosphere. You'll stay an extra day in Dharamasala. Driving distance 250 km More about Dharamsala

Day 18-19

Ride your motorbike to Amritsar (234 m), the Shik holy city close to the Pakistan border. You'll of course visit the holiest Shik temple, the Golden temple. Make an excursion to Wagah at the Pakistani border and vitness the spectacular border ceremony when the border closes for the day. In Amritsar you'll leave your Royal Enfield. Day 20

Train to Delhi where you'll stay one night. More about Delhi

Day 21

Journey ends. (You may flight out of Delhi the night before.)
